The Lehigh River In The Poconos

The Lehigh River In Thornhurst

The Lehigh River In Thornhurst

The Lehigh River is a 109 mile long river that stretches as far north as Scranton and all the way down to the Lehigh Valley, rambling through Thornhurst Township and many other small towns and cities along the way.  It is designated as a Pennsylvania Scenic River by the PA DCNR and is also a tributary of the Delaware River.

On the first day of Fishing Season, cars can be spotted decorating the shoulder of small roads in our town, like River Road, which is also called Buck River and Clifton Beach as it follows the Lehigh through a series of small, rural townships in the North Pocono area.  Occasionally there are canoes and rafts floating along as well.

Riverside Estates is a private community in Pocono Lake that is just across the Lehigh River from Thornhurst and, like its name suggests, on the Lehigh River.  Homeowners in Riverside Estates enjoy the benefit of preserved land along the Lehigh for easy access to the river.  With 129 total lots in the community, it is pretty exclusive.  In fact, less than a handful of homes have sold in this community in the past 5 years – markedly different from neighboring community Arrowhead Lakes which sees an average of roughly 80 home sales a year.
